Disclaimer: this work was done as part of an unpaid interview design task. All thoughts and designs are my own.
Introduction
I worked with a design brief to come up with an experience based on the following prompts during a design task interview.
The Prompt
- “A user wants to know where they can go immediately nearby, within 10 minutes walking distance, or city-wide.”
- “A user is traveling, steps out of their hotel and is looking for inspiration.”
- “A user is doing something in the world, such as lunch with friends on the weekend, or a bar at night. They step outside and want to know what the next move is.”
These prompts were intentionally vague and it was up to me to structure how I framed and solved these for the prompts. I defined the prompts as design problems and then come up with design requirements that solved for these factors that affect the user experience.
Design Process: Round 1
For my first round off design, I followed the process: define, ideate, sketch, design
Design Problems
- The user is in a new or unfamiliar place which introduces variables like location, time, and unfamiliar events
- User is doing on-the-go planning which means curating the discovery process and filtering for preferences and transportation that the user might not have the time or focus for
- The data needs to come from somewhere that preserves the quality of user exploration but provide enough options to not limit users (APIs, other members, etc.)
- The community needs to interact and leverage other member’s experiences per the brand value proposition
